Dirt Bike Program

Alpharetta PAL Summer Camp Dirt Bike Program

The Off-Road Dirt Bike program, offered as part of the PAL Summer Camp, includes both an eight hour dirt bike safety course and twice monthly trail rides at the forty-seven acre Honda Rider Education Center on Morrison Parkway.

The eight hour dirt bike safety course includes nineteen lessons certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and is taught at the Honda Rider Education Center on a dirt field that includes hills and wooded trails. The lessons cover the key points of bike operation and teach the skills necessary for safe riding in the varied situations encountered in off-road riding. The trails are designed to put riders to the test. Difficult conditions normally encountered in off-road situations such as sandy areas, rocks, bumps, and fallen logs, are built into the trail and the course.

The program is a cooperative effort of Don Wilson, the Director of Training at Honda, and officers from the police department’s traffic safety division. The goal of the program is to instill good driving habits, to teach safe off-road riding, and to supervise what could otherwise be a dangerous pastime. The hope is that learning safe off-road bike riding habits today will translate into safe automobile drivers tomorrow.
