The Clorox Company Foundation, through the Clorox Company’s Alpharetta sales office, awarded the Alpharetta Police Athletic League (PAL) $1,250 for the 14th annual PAL Summer Camp. The grant will be used for field trips to the Georgia Aquarium, Atlanta Zoo, and water activities during the camp, which will be held June 1st through July 30th.
Throughout the summer many City of Alpharetta police officers, fire fighters, and other Public Safety Department members assist with the program. These amazing volunteers help with everything from driving the PAL vans to chaperoning on field trips, teaching the CPR Certification class for the counselors, making Pinewood Derby Cars, and designing the weekly camp newsletter.
“The Police Athletic League is a community program supported by the City of Alpharetta and local contributors,” said Jim Little, PAL CEO, “It is groups like the Clorox Company Foundation who come together and help other organizations like ours that makes this gift so special.”
“Clorox is proud to support the Alpharetta Police Athletic League through this grant. It’s consistent with our commitment to make a difference in communities where our employees live and work. Community involvement is an integral part of our business and is carried out in a variety of ways, including volunteerism and leadership in community service,” said Ricky Guida, Clorox Director of Logistics.
Alpharetta PAL is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, community-based outreach organization formed in 1996 to provide a variety of services to Alpharetta’s youth while establishing a bond of mutual respect, understanding and trust with the Alpharetta Police.
With the overall objective of youth crime prevention, PAL’s mission is to provide an environment of “LEADERS BUILDING LEADERS” using a three-prong system of having kids teaching/mentoring kids under the supervision of, and in partnership with, the Alpharetta Police Department. PAL utilizes local high school student leaders, as well as adult community leaders, to serve as conduits to building relationships with program participants.
